Iceberg Lake/Ptarmigan Tunnel- 24 Jul 2008

It was a cloudy morning as we started out. It was perfect for the trip to Iceberg as the trail can be so hot when the sun is shining. This was a "Flower Power" hike plus gorgeous views.

Bog Orchids
Monkey Flowers

After passing Ptarmigan Falls we started seeing more beargrass in bloom

There were lots of hikers on the trail and as we neared the lake many where looking up the hillside at a Grizzy and her two cubs. She had crossed the trail as a ranger was leading a group up to the lake. Not to worry though as we out numbered her.
After crossing some snow we finally had our first view of the lake.

Lots of snow & ice. No one was putting their feet in this water

Some of our group tried for Ptarmigan Tunnel but the clouds were down on the mountain so they turned back at Ptarmigan lake and then had a nice long rest at the falls as they waited for our Iceberg group. When we got down to the cars this is what we saw.

Even so, no self respecting bear would mess with our group and a good day was had by all.
