Summit Lake- 4 Sept 2008

September already- where did the summer go. It wan't a good day for doing the Garden Wall so off to Summit Lake we went.

A rather cool misty beautiful morning at Cameron Lake with Karen, Marilyn and LaVern on the dock. There was a big moose in the water by the paddle boats

Ken, Faye, Marilyn, Karen, Betty and LaVern- As we went along the trail it was amazing how many big trees had been uprooted.

After many long easy switchbacks we reach the ridge and stopped for our traditional picture at the "Big Rock". On top - Karen, Ruth, Marilyn, Sheila. In front- Ken (our camera man) LaVern, Betty, Margreta Spencer and Pam
Our reward for the climb- lunch time and beautiful scenery

.

Looking for huckleberries, we walked along the Boundary Creek (Mother Duck) trail for a short while. The berries were few and far between but the view of Wurdemen Lake was worth the effort

A large orange mushroom lying by the trail.
More up-rooted trees

Even with a few minutes of sleet, the coolness of the day was great for hiking. At this time of year, our numbers seem to dwindle but for all of us who went, it was another great day of hiking.
